Author: Hatsumi Masaaki Publisher: Tsuchiya Shoten Year: 1994
Over 600 photos of a student demonstrating a particular art then Hatsumi Masaaki expanding on what was shown with his techniques. Most notable are the numerous empty hand and weapons techniques from India. Photos of training with the Japan Action Club, who performed the stunts for many Japanese chambara and TV shows such as the Kage no Gundan series; Hatsumi visiting the United States, and the first Bujinkan Japan Taikai. 27 pages of old illustrations of European fighting techniques and photos of a complete, old Yoshin Ryu densho.

Looking back almost 1,000 years, the mists of Japan's chaotic past shroud the development of a way of life, an ancient struggle waged against fierce feudal lords who ruled the island nation with swords of steel and a code of death before dishonor. The people of the mountainous regions of what is now Iga prefecture wanted to live in peace, but their lords had other plans-so the people learned the martial arts of self-defense and used their meager farm tools as weapons against the samurai blades of their oppressors. Nine traditions of the ninja arts grew out of this seemingly endless struggle, and legends were told of the supernatural abilities of the ninja fighters.

"Do not expect easy answers or simple solutions here on these pages. . . but then "that is the fun, the excitement, the joy of involvement in the warrior arts of accomplishment. . . . It pleases me no end to see the world at large now welcoming the knowledge of ninjutsu's ages in the form of these books by the art's grandmaster ." -- From the Foreword by Stephen K. Hayes In an uninhibited dialogue from a recent meeting with his top instructors from around the world, Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi discusses his personal journey through the mysteries of the ancient art of the phantom warrior.  It is quite true that no martial art can be taught by a book without a teacher, but this book is essential to anyone practicing Ninjutsu. This book by soke Dr.Hatsumi Masaaki describes the basic positions & techniques with black and white photographs and sketches, but most important it has historical information with rich photographical overage for every aspect of ninjutsu (arms, instruments etc). This book is is pure ninjutsu essence and tradition.

Secrets of the Ninja Grandmaster is a collection of heart-to-heart lessons from ninja grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi to his senior student and first American disciple, Stephen K. Hayes. When this book was first published in 1987, it gave Western martial artists their first chance to learn what the grandmaster himself had to say about the essence of warrior training that emphasized real-world battlefield fighting methods (jissen-gata) - from the use of weapons to ninja invisibility to kuji warrior spirituality - as opposed to art or sport. This important volume is now available once again through Paladin Press, with an all-new epilogue and a techniques section that illustrates various classical ninja fighting defenses. This is essential reading for every martial artist who has ever wanted to go beyond the stereotypical images of the ninja sensationalized in action-adventure movies and gain access to the true secrets of the ninja grandmaster. By: Masaaki Hatsumi, Benjamin Cole and Masaaki Hatsuni, Release Date: December, 2001
This is not so much a conventional book but more a collection of thoughts, quotes and ideas put forward by Hatsumi over the more recent years. This book is a must have, as Hatsumi feels that only now he understands what Takamatsu taught him. It is part practical information on taijutsu and a large part philosophy. You will take from this book that what is right for you. If you are at all interested in matters beyond pure technique then this will amount to far more words than are actually in the book! Ideas that are put forward are optimistic, universal and reflect the true nature of people.

by Alex Esteve (supervised by Sôke Masaaki Hatsumi)
Celebrate the inestimable historical legacy inherited by Professor Masaaki Hatsumi, current head (Sôke) of the numerous schools forming the Bujinkan Dôjô. The lessons passed down to him by his teacher, Toshitsugu Takamatsu, are filled with the history, philosophy and martial arts of Japan itself. Amongst the various aspects of this legacy, the most special was surely that of Ninjutsu, with its fabled Ninja – of which much is said but little is actually known.
This monumental work consists of two volumes. In this, the first, Sôke Masaaki Hatsumi speaks to us directly, clearing up confusion and passing on his great wisdom. At the same time, eighteen of the Bujinkan Dôjô’s top Shihan (highly ranked teachers) from around the world, who are in a position to absorb Sôke’s profound teachings first-hand, share their thoughts with us.

A Ninja was someone whose very existence expressed the spirit of Budo. He would protect himself with techniques not of assassination but rather of sensation and an acute awareness of his natural surroundings. He would avoid unnecessary conflict, and even if armed with a blade, would find a way to win without staining it. These are the true techniques of Ninjutsu, and the art in which Ninja persistently trained. Ninja exercised endurance throughout their secretive lives in order to protect their families, their clans, and their country. Their harsh training endowed them with a tough but pliant spirit, and martial skills suitable for coping with any situation, together with a sense of awareness that had universal application.

Of all the martial arts, bo-jutsu, or stick fighting, is one of the least understood and most intriguing, having been largely hidden for centuries. In Advanced Stick Fighting, Masaaki Hatsumi, the most renowned Budo and Ninja grand master in the world, and author of Stick Fighting and The Way of the Ninja, reveals some of the secrets surrounding this revered fighting art. Hatsumi offers the reader thoughtful reflections on bushido, its venerable history, and its role in today's world. He also discusses the origins of bo-jutsu, which he sees as inexorably linked to the evolution of humankind; it is both universal and timeless. While the highly acclaimed and long-selling Stick Fighting dealt mainly with self-defense using short sticks, this book reveals to the reader a number of advanced techniques using medium and long sticks that were originally used by samurai swordsmen and military commanders. Lavish illustrations accompany the explanations and help further demonstrate the graceful, mysterious movements of stick fighting. The original Japanese text is also included in the appendix. This book will be an important addition to the libraries of readers who are seriously interested in pursuing the more advanced applications of stick fighting. It will also deepen readers' understanding of bushido in general, and bring them closer to Hatsumi's personal philosophy-that only through complete devotion to the martial arts as a way of life can self-enlightenment be attained, and that the wisdom gained through this can promote a true and lasting world of peace.

In this book, Masaaki Hatsumi, the most renonwned Budo and Ninja grandmaster in the world, explores the venerable history of Japanese sword fighting, sharing with the reader his reflections on the hidden essence of this revered martial art. He covers a variety of classical techniques including Ninja kenpo, Yagyu Shinkage-ryu, as well as two-sword techniques. Drawing on his deep knowledge, the author demonstrates advenced, practical applications of the art, using the stick, spear, naginata, and kusarigama. More mysterious, secret techniques are also discussed, including those involving armor, and the variety of renowned mutodori (no-sword) forms-the ultimate martial skill of the samurai. Works of calligraphy by famous samurai masters, such as Asari Matashichiro and Yamaoka Tesshu, accompany the descriptions, as well as important historical scrolls and an array of lavish illustrations that help demonstrate the grace and beauty of Japanese sword fighting.Soke Hatusmi's Tetzusan was originally a Bujinkan magazine style newsletter which has been compiled into a fabulous new book. Packed with over 150 photographs. Includes both step-by-step pictures of the Kihon Happo and other various armed and unarmed techniques by Hatsumi Masaaki along with students from the past and present plus several philosophical pieces explaining the deeper meaning of the Kihon Happo, explanation of different aspects of training and interviews. Also, 14 rare newspaper articles from the 1960's, written by Hatsumi Masaaki's teacher, Takamatsu Toshitsugu, are included as well. 144 pages.
